Abstract
In the context of digital transformation and the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI), spelling-correction software and Japanese writing-support tools are playing an increasingly important role in foreign-language teaching and learning. This study examines several tools currently used to detect and correct errors in Japanese writing and discusses their applicability in the training program of the Faculty of Foreign Languages, Nguyen Tat Thanh University, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The research focuses on Microsoft Editor, Google Japanese Input, Shodo, Yahoo! Japan Kousei Shien, ChatGPT, DeepL Write, and LanguageTool.
Preliminary survey results indicate that these tools can support learners in detecting spelling errors, grammar problems, word-choice issues, and stylistic weaknesses. Among them, AI-based tools such as Shodo and ChatGPT show strong potential in explaining errors, suggesting more natural expressions, and supporting learner autonomy. However, these tools should not replace the role of lecturers; rather, they should be integrated into Japanese-language courses with clear pedagogical guidance and academic-integrity regulations.
