Description

The SAO files contain the results of the manual scaling of ionograms recorded at the Digisonde stations SO148, DB049, CAJ2M, JI91J, AT138, EB040, JR055, and SAA0K. The dataset comprises 13 days of observations acquired between 2022 and 2025 under a variety of ionospheric conditions, including quiet periods, geomagnetic storms, and disturbances associated with equatorial plasma bubbles, traveling ionospheric disturbances, and the January 2022 Hunga Tonga volcanic eruption. The corresponding ionograms, in RSF format, were retrieved from the Global Ionospheric Radio Observatory (GIRO) database and visualized using SAO-X software. The manually scaled data constitute the reference dataset used for the validation of the DISPEC ionogram scaler and are associated with the manuscript A New Ionogram Scaler for the Automatic Identification of Virtual Traces by Koutroumbas and Belehaki. The corresponding ionograms, in RSF format, were retrieved from the Global Ionospheric Radio Observatory (GIRO) database and visualized using SAO-X software.
