Description

Abstract

The Śrīmad Bhagavad Gītā, one of the most profound texts of world literature, transcends its status as a sacred Hindu scripture to offer a universal philosophy of life and action. Situated within the epic narrative of the Mahābhārata on the battlefield of Kurukṣetra, the Gītā presents a timeless exploration of ethical dilemmas, moral responsibility, and human psychology. The dialogue between Arjuna and Krishna symbolizes the inner conflict experienced by individuals when confronted with difficult choices involving duty, emotions, and personal values. Arjuna’s crisis of indecision, anxiety, and moral confusion reflects challenges that remain relevant in contemporary life, where individuals frequently struggle to balance professional obligations, family responsibilities, and ethical commitments. Rather than providing simplistic solutions, Krishna’s teachings offer a comprehensive framework for understanding the nature of the self, the meaning of duty (dharma), and the principle of selfless action (niṣkāma karma). The Gītā emphasizes performing one’s responsibilities with detachment from outcomes, thereby fostering inner stability, ethical clarity, and spiritual growth. This paper examines the practical relevance of the Bhagavad Gītā in addressing modern psychological, social, and moral challenges, highlighting its enduring significance as a guide for meaningful living, responsible decision-making, and personal transformation.
