Description

This document outlines the UX research and insighs found for the TerraDT storytelling platform, a digital twin of the Earth systemUsing the "Double Diamond" framework, the team focused on understanding user needs across four main impact models: Land, Ice, Urban and Forest.

Through workshops and interviews, the team gathered insights across four primary domainsFor the sea ice and land ice model, users stressed the need for transparent, customizable scenarios that avoid "black-box" distrustForestry stakeholders prioritized long-term forecasting, carbon accounting, and tools to monitor risks like fires and pestsIn the urban sector, the main concerns revolved around green infrastructure, flood management, and delivering clear risk communication that informs citizens without overwhelming them.

To create a more scalable platform, we are replacing domain-specific silos with cross-cutting profiles, allowing users to navigate based on their actual tasks rather than institutional labels.

Finally, as a disclaimer those insights are intended strictly to shape a communication and storytelling tool, rather than serving as the final technical user interface for the TerraDT platform itself.
