Biomass burning at the Last Glacial Maximum, mid-Holocene, and late Preindustrial

This archive contains netCDF (version 4) files containing output from the LPJ-LMfire Dynamic Global Vegetation Model (Pfeiffer et al., 2016) for four historical simulations. Each model output file contains the following variables:

- cover this is the fractional coverage of each of the 9 standard LPJ-LMfire Plant Functional types
- burnedf this is the fraction of the gridcell that is burned
- acflux_fire this is the total carbon emissions from biomass burning in units of g m-2 yr-1

Results are included for simulations for the late preindustrial era (averaging over the period 1801-1850 CE) without land use, and in a scenario where land use leads to fire suppression. Simulations for the mid-Holocene (6,000 BP) were performed using a paleoclimate simulation from GISS Model E2-R (CMIP5), and for the Last Glacial Maximum (21ka) using paleoclimate from the INM-CM4-8 (CMIP6) model. For the 6 and 21 ka simulations burned area is averaged over a 180-year period.
