Supplementary Table S1 — Allometric regression equations and vertebral centrum radius (CR) measurements used for body-size estimation of elasmobranch specimens from the Usiminas Sambaqui, Arraial do Cabo, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (Late Holocene, ~2,062–1,306 BP).
This file contains two worksheets. The first worksheet (Table S1) compiles the allometric regression equations used to estimate total length (TL) or fork length (FL) from vertebral centrum radius (CR) measurements for each taxonomic unit identified in the archaeological assemblage. For each species, the table provides the maximum and common body length reported in the literature, the regression equation applied, the output metric (TL or FL), the unit of measurement (mm), and the full bibliographic reference. Where no species-specific equation was available in the published literature, phylogenetically proximate surrogates were applied: the equation for Carcharhinus limbatus (Killam 1989) was used for C. brevipinna, and the equation for Sphyrna lewini (Schwartz 1983) was used for S. mokarran; both decisions are justified in the methodological notes embedded in the table. The second worksheet (Table S2) presents the individual CR measurements recorded for each specimen, along with the corresponding body-length estimates calculated dynamically from the equations in Table S1, the output metric, and the ontogenetic size-class assignment (neonate, juvenile, subadult, or adult). Taxa for which no regression equation was available (Rhizoprionodon spp. and Aetobatus narinari) are assigned to size classes based on comparative vertebral morphology and literature ranges. All CR measurements were taken at the widest point of the calcified corpus calcareum using digital calipers (±0.01 mm).
