Where & how to find a DOA journal

There exist several criteria for defining Diamond OA journals. Each of the resources in the flyer partly follows different criteria. In the European Union context, a reference document is the DOAS Diamond OA Standard.

Awareness-raising

The choice for the resources in the flyer (please mind the different search options, inclusion criteria, and possible overlap) is based on the awareness of:

• the persisting epistemic injustices inherent to the global production of knowledge [Knöchelmann, 2021], and
• how the ever growing information overload and sources questionability ask for a bias-conscious, critical search approach.

When searching a convenient publishing venue, please think of the scholarly publishing ecosystem as a whole, and of how the choice for Diamond OA helps achieve the goals of equity, diversity and inclusion central to the mission and vision of universities. Diamond OA is also deemed to be a key element of the Dutch Universities’ (UNL) new open access strategy (2026-30), aimed at gaining «greater control over how scientific research is published and how we can increase researchers’ autonomy in the various publication processes. A more autonomous publication system is needed to enhance the accessibility and societal impact of scientific knowledge» [Puylaert, 2025].
