AMC Edu:Lab Playbook
Authors/Creators
Description
AMC Edu:Lab is a mobile learning environment that introduces young people to Additive Manufacturing in Construction (AMC). It translates cutting-edge research on digital design, robotic fabrication, and sustainable building into activities for children and young people. The construction industry has a significant environmental footprint. New automated and digital technologies can help make it more sustainable. With the AMC Edu:Lab, all children and young people can explore these technologies early, building confidence, curiosity, and making skills. By designing projects to address real construction challenges, participants learn how they can contribute to more sustainable futures while feeling inspired to shape how buildings and cities will evolve.
This playbook offers flexible AMC Edu:Lab activities that work on their own or in combination. Each activity includes clear instructions, required materials, and questions for children and young people to talk about what they learn. Designed for school and after‑school settings, the activities encourage experimentation, creativity, and youth‑led design. Sustainability ideas are built into the activities. Creative challenges include tasks that require using only as much material as needed and designing projects that can be taken apart for reuse. Through personally meaningful design, children and young people explore how construction can become more sustainable. Some activities, such as Delightful Capturing, are continuous and involve capturing the process across all other activities.
