Description
Abstract (English)
This research presents a rigorous linguistic and epistemological thesis concerning the issue of Divine Attributes, criticizing the dominant reductionist methodology found among the theologians (Mutakallimun) and Ibn Taymiyyah. The main ideas of the research are summarized in the following points:
- Rejection of the Innovated Term "Attributes" (Sifat): The author argues that appending the word "attributes" to the Majestic Name (Allah)—whether in affirmation or negation—is an innovated convention that does not appear in the Quran or Sunnah in its current individual sense. He warns that affirming discrete, distinct attributes linguistically leads to the illusion of partitioning and dividing the One described. Alternatively, he calls for restricting terminology to the "Exquisite Names" (Al-Asma al-Husna), which inherently embody meanings without partitioning the Divine Essence.
- The Structural Approach (The Chemistry of Language): The research demonstrates that a lexical vocabulary word resembles a free atom in chemistry; its meaning and connotation change entirely through "contextual hybridization" once it enters the structure of a sentence. He illustrates this using oxygen or carbon atoms, whose properties vary depending on their structural geometry (such as the difference between coal and diamond).
- The Crime of Lexical Deconstruction: The research sharply criticizes isolating words like (the Hand, the Eye, the Ascendancy/Istiwa) from their composite Quranic context to affirm literal, dictionary-based denotations. He likens this practice to deconstructing harmless table salt into its toxic and burning elements, chlorine and sodium, emphasizing that the meanings of these words are contextual, structural, and relative, introduced for the sake of assimilation and approximation of understanding.
- Critique of the Taymiyyan Defense: The research dismantles the arguments of Ibn Taymiyyah's school, showing that phrases such as "He hears with a faculty of hearing" are purely human inventions that claim knowledge of the unseen mechanisms of Divine perception. It also refutes the accusation that proponents of Tafwid (consignment of meaning) "render the early predecessors (Salaf) ignorant," explaining that the Salaf understood the intended meaning via their innate linguistic intuition and remained silent out of pious reverence.
- Sacred Epistemological Silence: The research concludes with the necessity of absolute adherence to the scriptural wording and halting at the boundaries of human consciousness. It considers encroaching upon the intrinsic nature of Allah’s Essence as a form of "deviation (Ilhad) in His Names" and pursuing that of which humanity has no knowledge.
