So What? n°34 From lived experiences to public policy: rethinking the fight against the double burden of malnutrition among women and young children in Ethiopia
Authors/Creators
Description
This policy brief presents key reflections and recommendations from the TAMMIE (TAckling Multiple forms of Malnutrition In Ethiopia) project. It is part of the So What? series published by the UNESCO Chair in World Food Systems (Chaire UNESCO Alimentations du monde). Both the French and English versions are included in this Zenodo record.
TAMMIE combined evidence synthesis, policy analysis, stakeholder engagement, and participatory research through a 4P approach: understanding the Problem, analysing Policies and Programmes, identifying the People involved in nutrition decision-making, and defining Priorities for action. The project synthesised scientific evidence, reviewed nutrition policies and programmes, mapped key organisations involved in nutrition decision-making, engaged stakeholders to identify priority actions, and used participatory photography (Photovoice) to better understand women’s lived experiences of the challenges of achieving healthy diets for themselves and their children, as well as the solutions they proposed.
The brief discusses the policy implications of these reflections for developing and implementing more integrated and effective policies and programmes to address the double burden of malnutrition (DBM) in Ethiopia.
