Description

Initial public release of the model code and documentation for the Belal et al. 2026 study.

This release includes:

A NEURON + Python model of striatal projection neurons (dSPN and iSPN).
Python simulation notebooks for generating the simulation data underlying manuscript Figures 4–6 and S1–S4.
Python analysis notebooks and helper functions (master_functions.py, analysis_functions.py, settings.py) for analysing simulation output and producing the manuscript figures, voltage/current-density traces, and 3D voltage heat maps.
Reconstructed SPN morphologies (.swc) and a figure map (figure map.json) linking each manuscript panel to its simulation and analysis notebooks.
Movie/animation versions of selected dendritic and somatic voltage simulations.
Documentation for Conda/Python environment setup (macOS/Linux/Windows), running simulations in Jupyter Notebook, downsampling, and the example analysis workflow.
An environment.yml file for recreating the Python analysis environment.

Data availability:

The model is adapted from the publicly available Lindroos & Kotaleski (2020) striatal_SPN_lib codebase (ModelDB 266775).
Large/raw simulation output is generated locally and is not stored in this GitHub repository.
Local output folders such as downsample/ and analysis/ are intentionally ignored.

Notes:

This repository is intended to reproduce the model simulations and figure-generation workflows associated with the manuscript.
