Dynamiques sociologiques de la traduction : le cas de Persepolis en hindi
Description
L’approche sociologique en traductologie a transformé l’analyse des oeuvres traduites en mettant l’accent sur les conditions sociales de leur production et de leur réception. Persepolis, de Marjane Satrapi, publié en 2000 sous forme de bande dessinée, puis adapté en film, a connu un immense succès critique et commercial, ce qui lui a conféré un statut canonique. Rapidement traduite en anglais et doublée pour le film, l’oeuvre s’est inscrite sur divers marchés, dont l’Inde. En s’appuyant sur les ouvrages de Pierre Bourdieu, Gisèle Sapiro insiste sur le rôle des acteurs sociaux, du contexte de publication et de la réception dans la trajectoire d’un texte. Ainsi, la traduction d’une oeuvre déjà disponible sur le marché indien vers une langue indienne, comme le hindi, en 2021 apparaît comme un choix réfléchi. Cet article analyse cette dynamique, interroge les raisons de la traduction en hindi, son rôle dans le transfert culturel, ainsi que l’influence du moment et des agents de diffusion sur la réception.
Abstract (English)
The sociological approach in translation studies has transformed the analysis of translated works by emphasizing the social conditions under which they are produced and received. Persepolis, by Marjane Satrapi, published in 2000 as a graphic novel and later adapted into a film, achieved immense critical and commercial success, earning it canonical status. Quickly translated into English and dubbed for the film, the work was released in various markets, including India. Drawing on the work of Pierre Bourdieu, Gisèle Sapiro emphasizes the role of social actors, the context of publication, and reception in the trajectory of a text. Thus, the translation of a work already visible in the
Indian market into an Indian language such as Hindi in 2021 appears to be a deliberate choice. This article analyses this dynamic, questions the reasons for the translation into
Hindi, its role in cultural transfer, and the influence of timing and distribution agents on its reception.
