Description
This study evaluates the intersection of digital transformation and environmental sustainability within India's public sector banking (PSB) domain, selecting Canara Bank as a foundational case study. Amid rapid tech-driven evolution and stringent environmental regulations from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), banks face pressure to align operations with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) frameworks. This article examines Canara Bank's digital integration strategy, specifically analyzing how mobile infrastructure, green deposit instruments, and advanced corporate reporting models optimize resource use while mitigating systemic climate risk. The analysis shows that digital channels directly reduce paper consumption and scope 1 and 2 emissions. However, achieving net-zero ambitions requires a more proactive approach to analyzing financed Scope 3 emissions within corporate portfolios
