Syntypes.
Indonesia • colony (preserved in 70 % ethanol); Kambaragi Bay, Tanah Djampeah; depth ≤ 32 m; coral and coral sand; trawl, dredge, reef exploration; Siboga Expedition 1899–1900; Sta. 64; 4–5 May 1899; ZMA.COEL.3463 • colony (preserved in 70 % ethanol); entrance to Kwandang Bay; 1.0083°N, 122.9333°E; depth 80 m; sand and coral; trawl; Siboga Expedition 1899–1900; Sta. 117; 12 Jul 1899; ZMA.COEL.3466.
Remarks.
Under Article 45.6. 4 of the ICZN, variety names established before 1961 may be deemed subspecific; however, no nomenclatural changes are proposed here. Ongoing molecular studies (Vicario et al., in prep) may clarify the taxonomic status of this taxon.
