Teaching Boardex: Making Boardex Via Wrds Accessible To Undergraduate and Graduate Students
Description
If you are looking for biographical information on corporate executives and board members, BoardEx is a great source with a wide range of data on such things as compensation, education, and gender. However, using BoardEx through the Wharton Research Data Services (WRDS) interface can be daunting for undergraduate or graduate students who are unfamiliar with financial databases or WRDS. This presentation discusses partnering with a faculty member to integrate BoardEx into an upper level undergraduate economics class. Attendees will learn about the combination of tools and instruction that were used as well as a few tricks of working with the BoardEx data. STATA was used in class, but we will explore using R in this session to bridge the gap between obtaining the data and then importing it and analyzing it in statistical analysis software. Finally, student outcomes will be discussed.
