Description

Heterothera hoenei Choi, 1998

Type material (Fig. 5):“ 1 male, STS-79496, 62K, Medog County, Linzhi (Nyingchi) City, Xizang Autonomous Region, China, 29.709333°N, 95.582222°E, 20 July 2022, altitude 2788 m (collected by Pan Zhaohui).”

Description: The species is well characterised in the original description. Males have bipectinate antennae. The male has a wingspan of 28–29 mm (Figs. 5A, 5B). The frons and vertex are brown, interspersed with grey scales; the labial palpi are brown, with more than 1/3 extending beyond the frons; the thoracic dorsum is brown, with slightly lighter coloration at the base of both sides; the abdominal dorsum is dark brown, while the abdominal venter is dry greyish-brown. The forewings are dark grey to greyish-white, with a greyish-white ground color; the wing base and median band are dark grey; the subbasal line and inner line are indistinct; the median line jagged; the discal spot is a short black streak; the outer line is strongly convex and serrated, indented inward at the M 3 vein; an irregular serrated median band is formed between the median line and inner line; the area from the apex to the outer margin is dark grey; the cilia are blackish-grey. The hindwings are dirty white to dirty yellow; the discal spot is dark grey; the outer line is a thin, weak dark grey wavy stripe; the hind margin and outer margin are dirty yellow, scattered with some dark grey scales.

Male genitalia (Figs. 5C, 5D): The uncus is sharp tipped and spiniform; the tegumen is short, small, and arc-shaped (rounded-arch); the juxta is a sclerotized lamella; the juxta lateral processes are rounded pestle-shaped, with numerous long, slender hair tufts on their surface; the saccus is short and broad, with a flat base; the valvae are broad; the sacculus (ventro-basal part of valva) is sclerotized, and the terminal process of sacculus is short, small, and triangular. The valva apex is arc-shaped; the basal half of the valva dorsum (the costa) has a strongly convex, sharp process at middle, which is weakly sclerotized. The aedeagus is long and slender; the caudal part of the aedeagus has a ring of cornuti; the aedeagal vesica membrane is smooth.

Distribution: H. hoenei is recorded for the first time in Xizang.
