Description

This presentation outlined recent work on the development and implementation of Software Management Plans (SMPs) at Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC), shared during a DCC Implementation Network (DCC-IN) online meeting. The needs of research software developers were identified through surveys, interviews, and workshops, forming the basis for a set of guiding recommendations and a practical tool to support the creation of SMPs. A structured knowledge model was developed to accommodate different types of research software projects and their respective lifecycle phases. This model has been implemented and piloted within the Data Stewardship Wizard, enabling tailored and context-aware guidance. Automation features, such as support for metadata curation, help reduce manual effort while improving the consistency and quality of software metadata. To support adoption, complementary activities such as Coding Cafés and targeted training sessions are being established. Together, these efforts contribute to enabling robust, sustainable, and FAIR research software management practices at LUMC.
