Decolonizing Uyghur visual art: Uyghur diasporic responses to China's cultural engineering
Authors/Creators
Description
Visual art has become a prominent form of artistic expression in the Uyghur diasporic communities since the Chinese state has intensified its campaign of intrusive surveillance and mass internment in the Uyghur region after 2016. This article explores the strategies adopted by diasporic painters and digital artists to recover their subjectivities, reclaiming the Uyghur visual culture that the Party-State threatens to eradicate and replace.
