Python Code for Figures in "Black Carbon Aging Sustained by Chemical Evolution in Wintertime Haze over the East Asian Outflow: Evidence from Airborne Measurements"

Description

This dataset and codes provide information for visualizing aircraft observations of refractory black carbon over the Yellow Sea. Refractory black carbon was measured using a Single Particle Soot Photometer (SP2, Droplet Measurement Technologies). The mass concentrations and chemical composition of non-refractory submicron particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter below 1 µm (NR-PM1) were measured in real time using a high-resolution time-of-flight aerosol mass spectrometer (HR-ToF-AMS, Aerodyne Research Inc., USA). Gas-phase volatile organic compounds (VOCs) were measured onboard the research aircraft using a proton-transfer-reaction time-of-flight mass spectrometer (PTR-TOF-MS 1000, Ionicon Analytik GmbH, Innsbruck, Austria).

 

1) Figure 1_TImeline code.py

- This code plots the time series of meteorological parameters, trace gases, and aerosol properties observed during all research flights conducted over the Yellow Sea.

- Includes: flight altitude, ambient temperature, relative humidity, wind direction, wind speed, mass concentration of refractory black carbon, mass median diameter, coating thickness fraction, CO, CO2, O3, NO2, chemical compositions of non-refractory submicron particulate matter(NR-PM1).


2)Figure 2_Spiral code.py

- This code plots the vertical distributions of rBC properties and NR-PM1 species concentrations by flight direction observed during the intensive measurement period.


3)Figure 3_TImeline2 code.py

- This code plots the time series of VOC ratios and the physical properties of refractory black carbon observed during the intensive measurement period.

- Includes: BZ/TOL ratio, MOH/ACT ratio, NR-PM1, coating thickness fraction
