Description

ABSTRACT

Anatomical variations can be described as modifications to the usual morphology of the
human body, many of which go unnoticed and others are discovered as incidental findings
during cadaver dissections or imaging studies. With regard to the brachial plexus and its
branches, While many variations lack clinical significance, others impact surgical approaches
and are not of major importance, others connote a no velty with regard to their surgical
and/or anesthetic approach and the presence of compressive neurovascular pathologies.
During routine dissection of an adult male cadaver, we identified communication was found
of the musculocutaneous nerve (MCN) towards the median, in addition the MCN had a
variant in its path.
In relation to the aforementioned, we consider that brachial plexus injuries have a high
frequency and some of these entail great morbidity and as we observe in this report, a
variant in the path of the musculocutaneous nerve can bring with it the possibility that it be
injured in various traumas, for the latter it is of utmost importance to be able to identify and
take into account the different anatomical variations not only in this nerve but also in the
others.
