Description
This article examines the history of Arabic language academies, their role in terminology development and standardization, and the regulations governing term formation. The study discusses the activities of the academies of Damascus, Cairo, Baghdad, and Amman, highlighting their contribution to the development of Arabic in the context of scientific and technological progress. Particular attention is paid to the methods of term formation employed by these institutions, including derivation (ishtiqāq), Arabization, calquing, semantic extension, and the revival of classical lexical items. Through illustrative examples, the article demonstrates the significance of Arabic language academies in shaping modern terminology, preserving the status of the national language, and meeting the demands of contemporary scientific disciplines.
