Description
Abstract
Anxiety is one of the most influential psychological factors affecting students' academic
achievement, sports performance, social relationships, and overall well-being. Adolescence is a
critical developmental period during which students experience various academic, social,
emotional, and environmental pressures that may contribute to anxiety. The present study aimed
to compare anxiety levels among rural and urban high school students in North Coastal Andhra
Pradesh. A total of 300 students from Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, and Visakhapatnam districts
were selected for the study. Anxiety levels were assessed using a standardized anxiety
questionnaire. Statistical analysis was carried out using mean, standard deviation, and t-test
techniques. The results revealed differences in anxiety levels between rural and urban students,
indicating the influence of environmental conditions, educational pressures, family expectations,
social relationships, and lifestyle factors. The findings emphasize the need for psychological
support systems, counseling services, and stress-management programs within educational
institutions. The study contributes to the growing body of knowledge on adolescent mental
health and offers practical recommendations for educators, psychologists, parents, and
policymakers.
