The Role of Magnesium, Zinc, Calcium, and Phosphorus in Human Health: Importance, Sources, and Deficiency Effects

Description

Abstract

Magnesium, zinc, calcium, and phosphorus are essential minerals that play vital roles in numerous physiological processes, including bone formation, muscle function, nerve transmission, immune support, and energy metabolism. These minerals interact closely; for example, magnesium regulates calcium and phosphorus absorption, while the balance between calcium and phosphorus is critical for maintaining strong bones. Deficiencies in any of these minerals can lead to a wide range of health problems, such as osteoporosis, muscle weakness, cardiovascular issues, impaired immune function, and delayed wound healing. Ensuring adequate intake through diet or supplementation is especially important for at-risk populations, including the elderly, pregnant women, and individuals with chronic medical conditions. Maintaining proper levels and balance of magnesium, zinc, calcium, and phosphorus is essential for overall health, optimal bodily functions, and the prevention of long-term health complications.
