Description
Gynodiastylis hartmeyeri Zimmer, 1914
Holotype.
Australia • ♀; Western Australia, Sharks Bay [Shark Bay], nnö. der Nordspitze von Heirisson Prong [north-northeast of the north-tip of Heirisson Prong], Hamburger südwest-australische Forschungsreise 1905 exped., stat. 015; 11–12.5 m depth; 18 June 1905; J. Wilhelm Michaelsen leg.; Felsboden mit Korallen [rocky bottom with corals]; specimen heavily damaged, dried out, and glued to the bottom of the glass; it was rehydrated, but it is almost impossible to recognize; ZMH -K-016035.
Remarks.
Băcescu (1992) reported a “ female holotype ” deposited at the ZMB (not collection number given) with the same data as ZMH -K-016035. The ZMB Crustacea Collection does not include Zimmer’s material of Gynodiastylis hartmeyeri (personal communication Antje Schwiering and Kristina von Rintelen, ZMB). In Zimmer’s (1914) original description, no holotype was designated; however, the description was based on a single female specimen. The specimen deposited at the ZMH should be referred to as the holotype of Gynodiastylis hartmeyeri (ICZN Article 73, section 73.1. 2. holotype fixed by monotypy).
Diagnosis.
Carapace smooth and unornamented; eye lobe without lenses. Pereopod 1, propodus less than half carpus length. Pereopod 2 without hair-like setae. Pereopods 3–5, dactylus and terminal seta unmodified. Telson shorter than uropod peduncles, lateral margins smooth and without terminal setae. Uropod rami with terminal seta simple, and without fine hair-like setae; endopod tri-articulated, longer than exopod (after Gerken 2001).
Distribution.
East Indian Ocean, Australia, West Australia, 8–122 m depth (Băcescu 1992; Gerken 2001).
