The Noun That Never Was – The Verb of Everything

Abstract
The Standard Model of particle physics predicted that neutrinos are massless. Neutrino oscillation experiments
proved they are not. This paper argues that this failure is not an isolated empirical error but a symptom of
a deeper, unexamined commitment to a static, noun-based metaphysics. The Standard Model, like much of
modern cosmology, treats fundamental entities — particles, fields, the Higgs condensate, the initial singularity,
infinity itself — as nouns: things that possess properties at moments in time.
Drawing on the later philosophy of Ludwig Wittgenstein, the general semantics of Alfred Korzybski, the process
metaphysics of Alfred North Whitehead, and Douglas Hofstadter’s concept of the strange loop, this paper
proposes an alternate perspective: nouns are not primary. Verbs are. Every thing we name — particle,
field, mass, even infinity — is a by-product of an underlying process. "To be" is not to be a thing. "To be" is
to verb. Specifically, "infinite" and "infinitely" are not nouns or adjectives but verbs. They name an unceasing
process of never ending, never resting, never becoming static.
From this grammatical reorientation, a new cosmology follows. The primordial "infinitely small dot" cannot be
static; its infinitude forces it to act upon itself (loop, compress, convert). The origin of the universe is not a
singular creation event but a necessary conversion — compression flipping into expansion. Mass does not begin
everywhere at once but emerges asynchronously; neutrinos are fossils of this emergence. The cosmic neutrino
background becomes a trace of primordial process.
One empirical anchor for this verb-first, noun-second ordering is CP violation. Without CP violation, the
early universe would have produced equal amounts of matter and antimatter. They would have annihilated
completely, leaving only energy. Matter would never have emerged. The fact that we exist — that matter
exists — is direct evidence that energy preceded matter, and that the transition from energy to matter was
asymmetric. This paper suggests that particles could not have come before energy; indeed, particles contain
energy, not the reverse. CP violation is the fingerprint of the primordial conversion.
The conversion does not produce a featureless void. It produces a universal magnetic field – the first
noun, the first stable by-product of the verb’s self-looping. This field is not the ground of reality; it is

Finally, what becomes of traditional theological concepts – omniscience, a creator "outside of time" – when
"all" is never finished and "outside" is a spatial metaphor misapplied to time? From the verb-based framework
developed here, the question of a creator does not arise. The concept of a creator – like all nouns – is a byproduct
of underlying process. To ask whether such a being exists is, within this framework, to misunderstand
the nature of existence. Existence is not a property that nouns possess. To exist is to verb. The proper response
is not belief or disbelief but Wittgensteinian silence.
