NEXT-GENERATION SMART WATER MANAGEMENT USING IOT TECHNOLOGIES
Authors/Creators
Description
Water scarcity, inefficient distribution, leakages, and contamination are major challenges confronting global
water management systems. Rapid urbanization and climate change further intensify pressure on existing
infrastructure. This research paper explores next-generation smart water management systems enabled by
Internet of Things (IoT) technologies. The proposed framework integrates smart sensors, wireless
communication networks, cloud computing, and data analytics to enhance monitoring, control, and
optimization of water resources. Real-time data acquisition from distributed sensors allows detection of leaks,
pressure variations, quality degradation, and abnormal consumption patterns. Machine learning algorithms
facilitate predictive maintenance and demand forecasting, improving operational efficiency and reducing non
revenue water losses.
The study analyzes system architecture, communication protocols, security mechanisms, and implementation
challenges. It highlights the importance of scalable platforms, energy-efficient sensor networks, and secure
data transmission. Case-based evaluation demonstrates improved water conservation, cost reduction, and
enhanced sustainability. The research concludes that IoT-enabled smart water management systems represent
a transformative solution for sustainable water governance in smart cities and rural environments.
