Baḍugu — A Thing of Beauty: Reconstructing the Pre-Sangam Linguistic Massif via Oronymic Stem Matrices and Somatic-Kinetic Syntactic Isomorphism

This monograph establishes the sovereign structural status of Baḍugu, the indigenous language of the high Nilgiri massif (Nī-āla-giri), as an unextended, living proto-fossil of the Proto-South-Dravidian (PSD) parent tree. For over a century, orthodox taxonomies have erroneously dismissed Baḍugu as either a fractured highland dialect of modern Tamil or a rustic colloquial offshoot of Old Kannada. This study bypasses the standardized, court-sponsored literary texts of the lowlands to analyse the comprehensive geo-ecological and existential vocabulary currently in everyday usage among high-altitude pastoralists.

We isolate three foundational morpho-phonetic master laws: Radical Monosyllabic Primacy, Consonant Dissolution via Vocalic Heat-Sinking, and The Pre-Refinement Non-Palatalization Velocity. By demonstrating that Baḍugu systematically strips away the terminal consonant cushions (-r, -n, -ḷ, -ṇ, -m, -y, -l), internal retroflex fillers (-zh-, -ṇ-), and secondary nominalizing closures (-gam, -ram, -ṇam, -kam) that mainland literary languages require to process nouns, we expose an engineering blueprint of absolute acoustic and aesthetic elegance.

Finally, we document a closed, self-contained, nine-stage kinetic lifecycle pipeline—running from the deathbed transfusion (Hālu Aṭṭudu) to the cosmic water-regeneration sowing (Batta-Harasudu) and the roof-to-sky ancestral lock (Eḍebīpadu)—proving that Baḍugu maps landscape geometry, biological flora, climate physics, human anatomy, and divine cosmology with the exact same raw, agglutinative, and monosyllabic tokens. Baḍugu emerges not as an eroded variation, but as the unpolished, raw, and pristine skeletal bedrock from which the polished literary giants of the south were built: A true, mathematically perfect thing of structural beauty.
