Description.

Cross-section of rhizome axis with four tubers arranged in a whorl, c. 10 mm long and 3–5 mm wide, with a few longitudinal ridges (Fig. 2 A).

Discussion.

Tubers on rhizomes of Equisetum are frequently found in Cenozoic strata across the Northern Hemisphere and are among the most common fossil macro-remains of horsetails (e. g., Aung et al. 2020). In addition, one poorly preserved specimen (UMJ 80006) might represent an unbranched stem of Equisetum with nodes bearing whorled, connate, scale-like leaves forming nodal sheaths.
