ENHANCING LEXICAL SKILLS IN PRIMARY SCHOOL THROUGH FLASH CARDS: A STUDY BASED ON THE "SPOTLIGHT 2" COURSE

Description

The article deals with the problem of increasing the efficiency of forming foreign language lexical skills in primary school children. The relevance of the study is due to the contradiction between the need for solid vocabulary acquisition at the initial stage of education and insufficient practice of lexical material in modern teaching materials (using the example of the "Spotlight" course book). The aim of the work is to theoretically substantiate and experimentally test the effectiveness of using a system of exercises with flash cards (both physical and digital) for vocabulary activation. The research employed methods of analyzing psychological, pedagogical and methodological literature, pedagogical observation, testing and statistical data processing. A set of multi-level exercises with flash cards on the topics "Colors", "Family", "Home" was developed and tested. The results of the approbation in a children's linguistic center showed a significant increase in the quality of knowledge (an increase in the number of error-free answers by 30-50%), a reduction in lexical gaps, and an increase in motivation for independent work. The practical significance lies in the possibility of using the developed set by primary school teachers and authors of teaching materials to optimize the process of teaching vocabulary.
