OJS PID Manager Plugin - Presentation at PID4NFDI Community workshop on IGSN Use Cases
Authors/Creators
Description
Presented as a lightning talk at the PID4NFDI Community Workshop on IGSN Use Cases (4 June 2026, online), this contribution introduces the OJS PID Manager Plugin developed within the KOMET project (2023–2025).
Open Journal Systems (OJS) is a free and open-source journal publishing platform used by more than 50,000 journals in over 130 countries. The plugin extends OJS to manage and publish persistent identifiers (PIDs) for articles as structured article metadata and for easy access by readers. The supported PIDs include IGSN (International Generic Sample Numbers) and PIDINST (instrument identifiers). PIDs are frequently present in article full texts or supplementary materials, but are absent from metadata records. This reduces their discoverability and reusability and fails to use samples to connect research outputs, such as articles referring to the same sample, in open scholarly databases and knowledge graphs. The plugin supports manual entry, CSV-based bulk upload, display on article landing pages. A live demo instance is publicly accessible.
The slides contain additional detail on motivation, open science context, and directions for future work.
