Description

ABSTRACT:
Trimethoprim and sulfamethoxazole popularly known to be as co-trimoxazole. It is
popular antibiotic used to treat various types of bacterial infections. Collagen is the
primary building block of our skin, muscles, tendons, ligaments and other connective
tissues which also has a role in wound healing. Both of these antibiotics and the
collagen together can help to prevent microbial growth as well as aids in wound
healing. Co-trimoxazole inhibits the bacterial growth by inhibiting folic acid synthesis
and collagen provides structural integrity to the damaged tissue. Co-trimoxazole has
less absorption from external application which can be overcome by adding collagen,
which will helpCo-trimoxazole to penetrate and prevent bacterial infection in the

healing wounds. So, there is a scope for evaluation of topical formulations of Co-
trimoxazole in different kind of wounds models.
