CLINICAL ASPECTS OF FELINE SPOROTRICHOSIS

ABSTRACT

Sporotrichosis is a zoonotic disease caused by the dimorphic fungus *Sporothrix schenckii*, prevalent in tropical and temperate climates. In Brazil, the species *Sporothrix brasiliensis* stands out as the main etiological agent of the disease. Common in felines, which play a significant role in the transmission chain due to behaviors such as scratching and biting, sporotrichosis also affects humans, clinically characterized by skin lesions such as papules, nodules, and ulcers, in addition to nonspecific symptoms. Diagnosis is based on cytological and histopathological examinations, fungal cultures, and immunological tests, and it is essential to differentiate it from other pathologies. Treatment may include iodides, azole antifungals, and, in some cases, surgical intervention. This disease, previously considered occupational, has gained relevance in public health due to its zoonotic nature and the increasing number of cases in urban areas. This work presents a case report, conducted with the objective of describing the clinical, diagnostic, and therapeutic aspects of sporotrichosis in a feline, as well as discussing its importance for public health and the need for integrated actions for the control and prevention of the disease. Sporotrichosis constitutes a serious public health problem, especially in Brazil, where *Sporothrix brasiliensis* has demonstrated high pathogenicity in felines, which play a central role in the disease's transmission chain.
