Mechanical Characterization of the Composites of Date Seed and Wood Apple Shell Powders Reinforced with Epoxy Resin
Authors/Creators
Description
Composite materials hold significant importance in engineering because they are formed by
combining two or more distinct materials, resulting in a new material with enhanced properties
that surpass those of the individual components. Natural fibers are derived from plants,
animals, or mineral sources and can be processed into yarns and textiles. These fibers are
renewable, biodegradable, and environmentally friendly, making them valuable for both
conventional and advanced applications. The increasing emphasis on sustainability and
environmentally conscious solutions has driven greater interest in the use of bio-based fillers
across a wide range of industrial applications.
In this research, Mechanical characterization tests are conducted on date seed powder and
wood apple shell powder natural reinforcement composites. Initially, the required shell and
seeds are collected from natural resources. Then these are dried by exposed to sunlight after
that powder is made by grinding process. Next composites are prepared for the Date Seed
Powder + Wood apple shell powder + Epoxy Resin by using of hand lay-up technique.
After that Mechanical Characterization tests, which includes tensile, compression, flexural and
impact resistance tests are done for the fabricated hybrid composites. Based on the results acquired,
Mechanical Properties of hybrid composite is evaluated. Then analyzed results are compared for
different composites of wood apple shell and date seed powders with epoxy resin composites to
know the better composite. Sample 6 (25% wood apple shell powder and 5% date seed powder)
showed the highest tensile, compressive, and flexural strengths, while Sample 5 (20% wood apple
shell powder and 10% date seed powder) exhibited the maximum impact strength.
