Description

This dataset supports the manuscript titled “Hypersoft X-ray Sources as a New Class of Luminous Cosmic Emitters”, submitted to a Journal on September 4, 2025.

To reproduce the figures and access the source catalogs used in the study:

  1. Download and extract all ZIP folders into a single directory, along with the Jupyter Notebook "hypersoft_master.ipynb."

  2. Also, extract all ZIP files within source_analysis folder (e.g., M31, NGC3379, etc.), which contain the galaxy-specific subdirectories.

  3. Ensure that the CIAO (Chandra Interactive Analysis of Observations) software package is installed on your system. We recommend launching the Jupyter Notebook directly from within a CIAO environment.

  4. Follow the embedded instructions in the notebook to execute the full analysis workflow.

A master catalog, ed_table1.fits, is provided. It includes:

  • HSS coordinates

  • Source and background counts (with 1sigma uncertainties)

  • X-ray fluxes and luminosities (with 1sigma uncertainties)

  • Identified counterpart candidates (within 0.5 arcsec search radius)

  • Phase transitions

The metadata file embeded in the catalog (also printed in the end of the notebook) describes each column in detail. Running the complete notebook will also generate the master catalog in both FITS and CSV formats. 

Follow the embedded instructions in the notebook. The "plots" folder contains sample outputs for reference—these will be overwritten when you run the notebook. For any questions or technical issues, please contact the corresponding author.
