Description

This record contains a scanned PDF of the original Japanese-language conference paper “図形性の強さの同調的振動によるゲシタルト特性の統一的説明” (“A Unified Explanation of Gestalt Characteristics by Synchronous Oscillations of Figure Strength”), presented by Tamotsu Sohmiya at the 40th Annual Convention of the Japanese Psychological Association, held at Chukyo University on September 29, 1976.

The paper proposed that Gestalt organization may arise from synchronous oscillations in figure strength and reported experiments designed to test predictions derived from this hypothesis.

The study employed the flickering method utilizing visual-field rivalry phenomena, an experimental technique developed by the author to investigate temporal fluctuations in figure strength and perceptual organization.

The presentation was derived from the book Fundamental Study on Pattern Recognition by a New Experimental Method by Tamotsu Sohmiya and Kazuko Sohmiya, which was distributed beginning on the same date. The original book is available through the National Diet Library Digital Collections and has been assigned the DOI: 10.11501/12628158.
