Description

Colouring Dresden is Germany’s hub of the global Colouring Cities Research Programme (CCRP), an academic-led
initiative for collaborative collection and sharing of open building stock data. The platform combines citizen science,
moderated official datasets, API streams, and AI/ML-supported enrichment workflows to generate standardized micro-
spatial building information. Through interactive web mapping, contributors can document building attributes such as
age, materials, typology, renovation status, or energy-related characteristics. Integrated validation mechanisms,
provenance tracking, and open licences ensure transparency, reproducibility, and data quality. Embedded in the
international CCRP network, Colouring Dresden demonstrates how scalable open infrastructures can support research,
urban planning, climate adaptation, and public engagement. The CCRP supports interoperable open building data
infrastructures across more than 30 countries.
