Archaic Thought: Structure, Logic, and Phenomenology
Description
Archaic thought is presented here as a foundational stratum of the adult psyche, governed by pre-symbolic, imaginal, and affect-driven processes that persist beneath reflective consciousness. Rather than a primitive residue or a pathological regression, archaic thought is conceptualized as a coherent mode of knowing, structured by affective immediacy, symbolic condensation, and the logic of equivalence.
This paper outlines the structural, logical, and phenomenological dimensions of archaic thought, drawing on analytical psychology, phenomenology, and the author’s Theory of Adult Egocentric Language (Bumbalo Model). Particular attention is given to the emergence of archaic modes during dissociative micro-states, symbolic intensifications, and identity destabilization, where the collapse of symbolic mediation reveals deeper layers of the Self.
Clinically, the article argues for a phenomenological stance in analytic work: one that contains imaginal fields, tracks affective atmospheres, and recognizes archaic linguistic markers without imposing premature interpretation. Archaic thought is reframed not as an obstacle to analysis but as a privileged access point to the most primitive and transformative zones of psychic life.
This publication forms part of a broader research program (2024–2026) on archaic cognition, symbolic collapse, and adult egocentric language.
