The Role of Artificial Intelligence in Analyzing the Psychological Environments of Personnel from the Perspective of Security and Military Institutions: A Field Study in Bethlehem Governorate
Description
This study examines the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in analyzing the psychological work environments of personnel in security and military institutions in Bethlehem Governorate. The study is situated in a context characterized by continuous operational pressure, institutional sensitivity, and growing interest in data-driven approaches to mental-health support. Although AI applications in mental health have expanded in recent years, their use in security and military settings remains insufficiently examined, particularly in relation to ethically governed and scientifically validated tools for assessing psychologically sensitive work environments.
A convergent parallel mixed-methods design was adopted. Quantitative data were collected through an electronic questionnaire completed by 400 personnel working in security institutions. Qualitative and secondary evidence was generated through a PRISMA-guided systematic literature review and in-depth interviews with 20 purposively selected officials. Interview data were analyzed using grounded-theory procedures to identify recurring patterns and explanatory themes.
The findings indicate that the effectiveness of AI depends not on technical availability alone but on its functional alignment with personnel’s psychological realities, institutional trust, data quality, and ethical safeguards. Individual psychological characteristics shape acceptance, while technological awareness and confidence in data accuracy strengthen informed use. The results also indicate a potential shift from remedial responses after psychological deterioration to preventive monitoring capable of identifying early indicators of strain. Overall, the evidence supports an integrated model combining psychological, technological, preventive, and institutional dimensions.
The study recommends developing AI-supported systems that protect psychological and cultural privacy, expanding training and technological awareness, and establishing national models for assessing feasibility, impact, and institutional readiness.
