Description

Abstract:

Schiff bases constitute an important class of organic compounds characterized by the presence of an azomethine (-C=N-) functional group, and they play a significant role in various fields such as medicinal chemistry, coordination chemistry, and material science. The present study focuses on the synthesis, characterization, and classification of Schiff bases prepared using the magnetic stirrer method. The use of a magnetic stirrer ensured continuous and uniform mixing of reactants, leading to better reaction efficiency, reduced reaction time, and improved yield compared to conventional methods. The synthesized compounds were purified and subjected to characterization using standard analytical techniques such as melting point determination, UV-Visible spectroscopy, and Infrared (IR) spectroscopy. The formation of Schiff bases was confirmed by the appearance of the characteristic azomethine (-C=N-) stretching vibration in the IR spectra. Additional techniques such as Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy were considered where applicable for structural confirmation. Furthermore, the synthesized Schiff bases were systematically classified based on their structural variations, nature of substituents, and functional group characteristics. The study also highlights the influence of different substituents on the physical and chemical properties of the compounds. In conclusion, the magnetic stirrer method proved to be a simple, efficient, and reliable technique for the synthesis of Schiff bases with good purity and yield.
