Description
English title: Cultural Treasury of Čačak: From Prehistory to the Present Time
The monograph Cultural Treasury of Čačak: From Prehistory to the Present Time is a synthetic and richly illustrated survey of the cultural, artistic, and historical heritage of Čačak and its surroundings. It traces more than 7,000 years of human presence in the West Morava region, from prehistoric cultures to the contemporary era.
The book’s main value lies not only in presenting individual objects, monuments, and architectural ensembles, but in placing them within historical context. Archaeological finds, sacred art, monastic complexes, urban architecture, public monuments, and photographs are interpreted as parts of a wider cultural landscape.
The monograph is not limited to legally protected cultural monuments. It also presents objects, buildings, and spatial ensembles that marked their epochs or survived as rare material traces of earlier times. For this reason, the book functions as a museum synthesis, a work of local history, and a visual catalogue of heritage.
Čačak is presented as a space of long cultural continuity, but also as a community in which heritage is constantly reshaped: from Neolithic cultures, Roman and early Byzantine layers, medieval monasteries and the Ottoman period, to nineteenth- and twentieth-century modernization, industrialization, and the public memory of the modern town.
The book has strong museological value. It translates museum knowledge into an accessible, visually clear, and scholarly useful form, defining a corpus of heritage important for local identity, public history, education, and further research.
