Role of Phytobiotics in Poultry Nutrition
Description
In chicken production, antibiotic growth promoters (AGPs) have been used extensively to boost growth, increase feed efficiency, and manage subclinical infections. They work by lowering toxic microbial metabolites, enhancing nutritional absorption, and altering gut microbiota. However, the hunt for safer substitutes has been spurred by worries about antibiotic residues and antimicrobial resistance in poultry products. Because of their low toxicity and lack of residue, phytobiotics—plant-derived feed additives—have become popular and natural alternatives. Compounds like thymol, carvacrol, and eugenol are examples of phytobiotics that have potent antibacterial activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Additionally, they stimulate immune responses, aid digestion, and foster healthy bacteria to improve gut health. Phytobiotics also have antifungal, insecticidal, and anticoccidial qualities that aid in the management of parasite illnesses, fungi, and pests. All things considered, phytobiotics provide a sustainable and environmentally beneficial way to enhance poultry productivity and health while lowering dependency on antibiotics.
