An Evolutionary-Biological Explanation of the Chicken-or-Egg Problem

This paper reexamines the classical philosophical problem "Which came first, the chicken or the egg?" from the perspective of modern evolutionary biology. Based on the principle that genetic mutations driving speciation occur during gamete formation — not after hatching — this study argues that the first chicken was already genetically determined at the egg stage. Two competing scenarios are formally compared, and the conclusion is: the egg came first.

본 연구는 "닭이 먼저냐 달걀이 먼저냐"라는 고전적 철학 난제를 현대 진화생물학의 관점에서 재검토한다. 종 분화를 유발하는 유전적 돌연변이는 부화 이후가 아닌 생식세포 형성 시점에 발생한다는 원리에 근거하여, 최초의 닭은 이미 알 단계에서 유전적으로 결정되어 있었음을 논증한다. 두 가지 경쟁 시나리오를 비교한 결과, 달걀이 먼저라는 결론을 도출한다.
