Onthophagus chloroderus d’Orbigny, 1905

Type locality: “ Sierra Leone ” (d’Orbigny (1905) clearly states that this specimen is the type).

Original description (d’Orbigny, 1905a): “… vert, avec le dessous du corps et les pattes plus foncés, ou d’un bleu foncé... les élytres d’un testacé clair, y compris les épipleures, avec le bord basiliaire très étroitement noir et deux rangées transverses de petites taches noires…”

Comparison between the types of Onthophagus chloroderus d’Orbigny, 1905, and Ateuchus maculatus Fabricius, 1801, shows there are no differences, except in the colour of the pronotum. Aedeagi extracted from non-type green (Guinea) and red (Côte d’Ivoire) individuals also show no differences. Following the principle of priority, we propose Onthophagus chloroderus d’Orbigny, 1905 as a junior subjective synonym of Ateuchus maculatus Fabricius, 1801.
