The Thermodynamics of Awareness: Computational Surplus and Phase-Locked Coherence in the Unified Consciousness Field

Description
Abstract
Classical paradigms of c onsciousness operate on the assumption that awareness is a continuous, static binary—a system is either computationally "on" or "off. " This paper rejects the static model in favor of a thermodynamic, wave-based architecture of consciousne ss. By integrating Bidirectional Constraint Closure (BC C) and the Constraint-Relaxation Energy Model (CREM) with the Free Energy Principle and Integrated Information Theory, we estab lish that awareness oscillates between a highly deterministic "autopilot" state and high-fidelity phase-locked coherence. We introduce the Computational Surplus Threshold (C_s), math ematically defining consciousness as the emergent byproduct of a system's rate of observation (R_{obs}) exceeding the rate of environmental fluctuation (R_{env}). When C_s > 0, the biological or macroscopic organism utilizes this thermodynamic surplus to
deploy Freedom Quanta, allowing the system to actively map and navigate Dimension-W—the active state space of potential histories and constraints.
