D2.1 - API Reference Model

In the realm of European transport, the necessity for data-driven operations cannot be overstated. Real-time analysis and visualisation of data concerning vehicles, drivers, and transported goods are pivotal for optimising operations and ensuring compliance. However, the progress in this domain is hindered by various challenges, including legacy systems, fragmented data, capability gaps, and obstacles to data sharing. 

Addressing these challenges head-on, the project Knowledgable comprEhensive and fullY integrated SmarT sOlutioNs for rEsilient, sustainable and optimised transport operations (KEYSTONE) has emerged with a bold vision. KEYSTONE seeks to contribute to a roadmap for the digital transformation of the European transport ecosystem by introducing standardised, truly Plug-and-Play solutions that bridge existing gaps, irrespective of legacy systems. This initiative marks a significant advancement in ongoing efforts to foster data-driven capabilities within transport operations. 

KEYSTONE is designed to integrate existing data-driven platforms, services, and skill development solutions across a diverse spectrum of European stakeholders. Beyond technological advancements, the project also emphasises providing policy recommendations to alleviate shortages in data literacy and digital leadership. By fostering collaboration among regulators, operators, and service providers, KEYSTONE aims to harness the power of data for compliance purposes effectively. 

Deliverable 2.1, the API Reference Model, is a pivotal component within the broader context of the KEYSTONE project's objectives. The endeavour to unify transport data across Europe requires standardised and interoperable digital solutions. D2.1 serves as a foundational element in this pursuit, providing a structured framework for API standardisation that facilitates seamless data exchange among diverse stakeholders. 

By creating the API Reference Model, D2.1 contributes directly to KEYSTONE's mission of bridging existing gaps in data-driven operations. It lays the groundwork for standardised communication protocols, enabling Plug-and-Play solutions that transcend the limitations of legacy systems. Moreover, D2.1 aligns with the project's aim to integrate existing data-driven platforms and services, fostering collaboration and interoperability across the European transport ecosystem. 

As such, D2.1 represents a crucial step forward in the project's journey towards a resilient, sustainable, and optimised transport operation.
