Description

Abstract:

This study focuses on the extraction, analysis, and application of natural dye obtained from the petals of red rose (Rosa species), emphasizing its potential as an eco-friendly alternative to synthetic dyes. Red rose petals are rich in anthocyanin pigments, which are responsible for their vibrant color and exhibit excellent solubility in water. The extraction process involves simple and cost-effective methods such as crushing the petals followed by heating in distilled water to obtain the dye solution. The chemical behavior of the extracted dye is significantly influenced by pH, showing a range of color variations from red in acidic conditions to bluish-green in alkaline environments, making it useful as a natural pH indicator. The dyeing performance was evaluated on different natural fabrics like cotton, silk, and wool using various mordants such as alum, iron, and copper salts to improve color fixation and fastness. The results indicate that mordanting enhances the depth and durability of the color, although the overall fastness properties remain lower compared to synthetic dyes. Despite these limitations, the dye demonstrates several advantages including biodegradability, non-toxicity, and minimal environmental impact. The study also highlights its potential applications in textile dyeing, eco-friendly crafts, cosmetics, and educational purposes. However, challenges such as limited color stability, sensitivity to environmental factors, and seasonal availability of raw materials need to be addressed for large-scale utilization. Overall, the research supports the growing interest in sustainable and green technologies by promoting the use of plant-based dyes, and suggests further improvements through advanced techniques to enhance the performance and commercial viability of natural dyes extracted from red rose petals..
