Description

This dataset corresponds to a subset of the Bitcoin User Network (BUN), specifically covering the period from week 800 to week 865, where week 0 corresponds to January 3, 2009. Weeks are defined as consecutive 7-day intervals (Saturday to Friday).. The BUN dataset represents a large-scale network of Bitcoin users inferred from blockchain transaction data.

The dataset contains transaction-level information from a subset of the Bitcoin User Network (BUN). The columns are defined as follows:

  • week: Integer identifier of the week corresponding to each transaction.
  • value: Transaction value expressed in Bitcoin (BTC).
  • gin: Identifier of the source user (origin node) in the Bitcoin User Network.
  • gout: Identifier of the destination user (target node) in the Bitcoin User Network.

Each row represents a directed transaction from a source user (gin) to a destination user (gout) occurring in a given week, with an associated transferred value in BTC.

A detailed description and analysis of the Bitcoin User Network can be found in the following preprint:
arXiv:2512.00437 - Concentration Within Distribution: Unmasking Bitcoin's Structural Centralization Through Network Science

Authors: Myriam Nonaka, F. Javier Marín-Rodríguez, Alexander Jiricny, Miguel Romance, Regino Criado, Sergio Iglesias-Pérez, Alberto Partida.

The Bitcoin User Network (BUN) is constructed directly from raw blockchain data and enables the study of its structural and temporal properties through complex network analysis .

If you use this subset of data in your research, please cite the above preprint.

The data contained in this subset were processed at the Data, Complex Networks and Cybersecurity Sciences Technological Center (DCNC), Rey Juan Carlos University, Plaza de Manuel Becerra 14, 28028, Madrid, Spain, and at the Department of Applied Mathematics, Materials Science and Engineering, and Electronic Technology, specifically within the Laboratory of Mathematical Computation on Complex Networks and their Applications, Rey Juan Carlos University, Calle Tulipán s/n, 28933, Móstoles, Madrid, Spain.
