Title: How Common Are Common Envelopes? Quantifying Their Role in Forming Gravitational-Wave Sources (Data & Code) v3.0

Description:

This dataset and code repository accompanies the paper:

Broekgaarden et al. (2026) — How Common Are Common Envelopes? Quantifying Their Role in Forming Gravitational-Wave Sources

This is version 3.0, which supersedes v2.0. The archive files Rates_of_Formation_Channels-3.0.tar.gz and Rates_of_Formation_Channels-3.0.zip contain a complete snapshot of the GitHub repository at the time of paper submission.

Contents of the archive

The repository provides the data and Jupyter notebooks needed to reproduce all figures and results in the paper. The main top-level directories are:

  • fc_data/ — compiled formation-channel rates, simulation specifications, and formation efficiency data for all BBH, BHNS, and BNS population-synthesis simulations included in the catalog, including metallicity-resolved formation-channel fractions. Observational constraints are updated to GWTC-5 (The LIGO Scientific Collaboration et al. 2026).

  • plottingCode/ — Jupyter notebooks to reproduce all figures. Each figure set has both a standard and an interactive companion notebook.

  • figures/ — output PDF figures.

  • interactive_figures_and_tables/ — interactive HTML figures for Figures 2–5 and 15, and an extended BPS model assumptions table, all accessible via the online companion page.

Changes since v2.0 (summary)

  • Repository structure significantly reorganized: data consolidated into fc_data/, figures moved to figures/, interactive figures moved to interactive_figures_and_tables/.
  • All figures renumbered and updated to match the submitted paper, including new Level 2 decomposition figures (Figs 6–8) and parameter-dependence figures (Figs 9–13).
  • Observational constraints updated to GWTC-5.
  • New interactive HTML figures added for all main results figures.
  • New formation efficiency data added for Broekgaarden et al. (2022) and Iorio et al. simulations.
