Paenibacillus spp., a novel potato endophyte, adapts its physiology in planta to allow for mutualistic symbiosis with potato

Description

This dataset supports the publication "Paenibacillus spp., a novel potato endophyte, adapts its physiology in planta to allow for mutualistic symbiosis with potato."

It contains three categories of data:

(1) Genome data:  de novo assembly and functional annotation of a novel Paenibacillus sp. endophyte isolated from potato (Solanum tuberosum) tissue, generated using hybrid Oxford Nanopore and Illumina paired-end sequencing.

(2) Microscopy images: original confocal fluorescence micrographs documenting bacterial colonization of potato tissues, and TEM micrographs comparing Paenibacillus sp. morphology between bacteria extracted from infiltrated potato leaves and bacteria grown in liquid culture.

(3) Experimental raw data: raw measurements from the following experiments, provided as an Excel workbook:

  • In planta colonization of potato cv. Rywal by strain ST1, quantified by qPCR
  • Bacterial abundance in field-grown potato samples (organic and conventional cultivation systems), quantified by qPCR
  • Virus resistance assay: lesion counts on PVY-infected potato leaves
  • GFP-labelled PVY fluorescence spread in tobacco
  • Plant growth promotion: root length and root count
  • Plant volume measurements
  • Confocal microscope acquisition settings
  • Field trial management records

Paenibacillus sp. ST1 was isolated from internal potato (Solanum tuberosum) tissues and characterized as a mutualistic endophyte.
