Publication of farming typologies across the EU
Description
Europe-LAND’s new farming typologies, aimed at typecasting farms based on the land-use decisions taken regarding crop choices, as opposed to existing approaches that consider farm size and specialization. Our typologies are based on crop choices: per field, per farm. Built using self-organizing maps and a collated spatial dataset covering 4.3 million farms and their fields, our data shows how farmers typically compose their crop portfolio and indicates where intensive and low-intensive cropping takes place.
This report was prepared as part of Deliverable D2.2 (Publication of farm typologies across the EU) of the Europe-LAND project. The report contains preliminary and unpublished draft material intended for reporting and demonstration purposes only. The work will be further continued and developed, and the methods, results, and conclusions presented here may therefore be revised, updated, or modified prior to subsequent publication in a peer-reviewed scientific journal. The findings presented should therefore not be interpreted as definitive at this stage.
